Caraga State University rolls out bike-sharing system under new Sustainable Mobility Program
Caraga State University (CSU) has officially launched its Sustainable Mobility Program, introducing a bike-sharing system aimed at reducing the campus's carbon emissions and promoting greener, healthier transportation alternatives. The program kicked off on August 19 with the deployment of ten bicycles as an initial step toward building a more environmentally sustainable campus. Spearheaded by CSU’s Pollution Control Office, the initiative reflects the university's strong commitment to climate action and sustainable development. In a significant collaboration, CSU partnered with iKilos Bayugan, a local non-governmental organization, to implement the program under the PadyaKalikasan Project, with support from the Korean Safety Health Environment (SHE) Foundation. A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed during the launch, formalizing the partnership. Signing the agreement were CSU President Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil, Pollution Control Officer Vincent N. Cotoron, and iKilos Bayugan Executive Director Sheen Milger A. Ochavo. CSU hopes these efforts will lead to a measurable reduction in its carbon footprint, improvement in air quality, decrease in noise pollution, and a boost in safety and accessibility for all campus users. Importantly, the initiative also seeks to foster a culture of environmental stewardship among students, faculty, and staff. The Sustainable Mobility Program forms part of CSU’s broader agenda to align university operations with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to climate action, sustainable cities, and responsible consumption.
