Active Mobility and Campus Bike-Sharing: University Sustainable Mobility Program

Active Mobility and Campus Bike-Sharing: University Sustainable Mobility Program
Active mobility plays a vital role in promoting sustainable urban development and healthier lifestyles by connecting people to destinations through human-powered transport such as walking and cycling. It reduces traffic congestion, carbon emissions, and dependence on fossil fuels while improving air quality and accessibility. In the context of the university, active mobility fosters inclusivity, efficiency, and satisfaction within the campus community. The University Sustainable Mobility Program (USMP) of Caraga State University (CSU) promotes environmentally friendly transport modes like cycling and walking to align with global and national sustainability goals. The program aims to reduce the campus’s carbon footprint, enhance air quality, and improve overall well-being by making sustainable transport part of everyday university life. The PadyaKalikasan Project, an initiative of iKilos Bayugan, supports this mission by advocating for bicycle-friendly and eco-conscious mobility. The campaign equips communities with bike repair stations, bike racks, and educational programs that integrate environmental awareness. It collaborates with local governments and schools to promote active mobility policies, including bike-sharing systems that encourage climate-resilient, low-carbon lifestyles. Through the partnership between CSU and PadyaKalikasan, the university launched a bike-sharing program as part of its sustainability goals. This collaboration symbolizes academic leadership and youth-driven environmental action. By providing accessible and affordable bicycle transport, the system helps reduce congestion and carbon emissions while promoting healthier lifestyles across the university. This collaboration empowers students and staff to choose low-carbon transport, lessens traffic congestion, and fosters climate action from the ground up.
